Glendale Heights is a western Chicago suburb that is home to not only Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins fame, but also Glendale Lakes Golf Club. (Hey Billy – do you golf?) Now is a perfect time to check out this course if you haven’t had the opportunity. Glendale Lakes is offering a number of promotional events. Through the Tribune Half-Price Chicago site, you can book Two-for-One golf. There are a couple other sale events being offered directly through the Glendale Lakes Site, but these will be expiring tomorrow (Sept 30).

Eagle Golf owns a number of courses across the country including Eagle Brook Country Club in Geneva, Fresh Meadow Golf & Practice Center, Mill Creek Golf Club & Academy, Mission Hills Country Club, Tamarack Golf Club and Whitetail Ridge Golf Course. Now through October 15th, Eagle will donate $1 for every round played and 5% of all initiation fees to the Lance Armstrong Livestrong Foundation. With Fall rates nearing, this gives you yet another reason to hit the links.

The traffic backup on the tollway today this morning might not have grabbed your attention, but the BMW Championship is now starting at Cog Hill. Big names (ala Tiger Woods, Mickelson, etc) are in town and tee’ing it up for $7 million in prize money so if you have an opportunity to head out that way you’ll be in for a treat! With such a broad geographic area and a TON of public and private courses, it can be hard to find the best courses in Chicago. Which courses stand out above the rest? Fortunately, Golf Digest makes it a little easier with their “Best Courses in the State” annual listing. Some of these courses are pretty fall-off-the-log obvious, while I was surprised by a few others. Any thoughts – is your favorite missing??? I was kind of surprised Harborside was missing. And Butler is nice, but it’s at #3…..hmmm.

2009 Chicago Golf Tweetup – Great day for golf!

Yesterday was the first Chicago Golf Tweetup at Fresh Meadows in Hillside. Beautiful weather, nice course and great company. It was great to have an opportunity to meet up with some other tweeters/golfers and look forward to trying it again. Hopefully, my slice will be better!
